Chiang Mai, Aug 7 :  Prolific Prayad Marksaeng posted an impressive five-under-par 66 to storm to a five-stroke victory at the Singha Chiangmai Open.

The veternan, leading from the start at the two-million-baht tournament, completed a successful defence of his title with a total of 26-under 258 at the par-71 Mae Jo Golf Resort & Spa course. He took home the winner’s purse of 300,000 baht.

It is his second win on the All Thailand Golf Tour this year and 18th overall. He had earlier captured the title in Hua Hin.

Poosit Supupramai and Phachara Khongwatmai, who carded final  68s, shared the second place on 21-under 263 and each received 149,500 baht each.

Building on his morale-boosting victory on the Japan Senior Tour last week, Prayad tamed the course by firing a 61 in the opening round and never looked back. In the final round, he had four birdies to turn at 32 and then sank three birdies and a double-bogey on the back nine.

Gunn Charoenkul (67) and Settee Prakongvech (66) shared fourth spot on 19 under, while Phanuvich Onchu carded a superb 63 for a 266 total. Niran Sae-eung came in seventh with a 17-under total following his 67.

Thanks to an eagle on the 16th, Thaworn Wiratchant moved up the leaderboard to finish joint 23rd on 11-under 273 with Udorn Duangdecha (69) and amateur Kamalas Namuangruk (71).

Chapchai Nirat, who shot 30 on the front nine with six birdies before picking up two birdies against one bogey and a double-bogey, shared 26th with Panuphol Pittayarat (68) on 10 under. Panuphol was six under with two holes to play, but double-bogeyed the 17th and also bogeyed the final.
