Hua Hin, Thailand, May 8 Evergreen Prayad Marksaeng proved age is no barrier as he fended off young challengers to win the two-million-baht Singha Hua Hin Open yesterday.

Sharing the lead with Udorn Duangdecha after three rounds at the par-71 Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, the 50-year-old Prayad posted a final round two-under 69 to land the title by one stroke after finishing on 13-under 271.

Prayad has gone one better this time after sharing the runner-up spot with Prom Meesawat last year. Tirawat Kaewsiribandit (68) and Prom (69) were joint second on 12-under 272, while Udorn (73) fell down to fourth on 275 in the event co-sanctioned by Asean Tour.

The Hua Hin-native Prayad, who yesterday carded six birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey, earned 300,000 baht for his first win this year and overall 17th on the All Thailand Golf Tour. Tirawat and Prom took home 149,500 baht each while Udorn pocketed 93,000 baht.

Peradol Panyathanasedh's 65 was the lowest round yesterday, helping him move up to finish joint fifth with Kwanchai Tannin (66).

Two-time Asian Tour winner Thaworn Wiratchant posted a poor round of 74 to share eighth place with Settee Prakongvech (67) and Phanuvich Onchu (70). Boonchu Ruangkit (69) was tied for 44th on 289.

The Hua Hin Open is one of three All Thailand Golf Tour events which are co-sanctioned by Asean Tour. The other three are the E-San Open, the Pattaya Open and the Phuket Open.
