Amateur Sarit stars in Singha Pattaya Open victory

Pattaya, July 17 : Thai amateur Sarit Suwannarat upstaged his countryman Udorn Duangdecha to win the Singha Pattaya Open today on the first play-off hole.

Sarit and Udorn, joint third round leaders, closed with three-under-par 67s to finish tied on 16-under-par at Burapha Golf Club. Young Sarit, a member of the Thai team that won the team gold medal in last year’s SEA Games in Singapore, made five birdies and two bogies to help make his mark in the professional game for the first time. He went to win the title with a birdie at the first play-off hole at a par-fourth 18th. 


The 45-year-old Udorn, winner of this event on 2010, crucially bogeyed 17 to let Sarin in and he got 450,000 baht.  

Thailand’s Janewattananond claimed outright third place after shooting a 67 finishing two off the play-off and earned 277,500 baht. 

Thaworn Wiratchant (67), Thummann Koommark (67), and Suradit Yongcharoenchai (68) tied for fourth four strokes further back. They each got 141,000 baht. Prom Meesawat, a two-time winner of this tournament, fired a 68 and was one shot back in joint seventh. The Hua His native received 79,700 baht. 


Two strokes down further  on joint 10th were Danthai Boonma (69), Itthipat Buranathanyarat (70), Setti Prakhongwes (66), Nitithorn Tippong (68) and Titiphun Chuayprakong (72).
