First Asian Tour Win for the “Little Prince” Rattanon

Taking a one-shot lead after three rounds, the 21-year-old golfer closed with a four-under-67 to win the title by two shots on 21-under-263 at par-71 Thai Country Club. Indian duo Shiv Kapur (63) and Gaganjeet Bhullar (67) were second on 19-under with Panuphol Pittayarat (70) two shots behind.

The 21-year-old Rattanon became the fourth Thai to win the prestigious tournament which was inaugurated in 1965. Other three winners are Suthep Meesawat (1991), Boonchu Ruangkit (1992 and 2004) and Prayad Marksaeng (2013). He was also the third Thai to win on the Asian tour this year following Prayad Marksaeng (Singapore Open) and Jazz Janewattananond (Bangladesh Open).

Rattanon got the winner’s cheque of US$ 300,000 at the US$ 300,000 tournament and a one-year exemption to play on the tour.

Danthai Boonma finished fifth on 16-under-268 after his final 66 while former Asian tour number one Kiradech Aphibarnrat (70) shared 6th on 269.
