Phachara fighting for BMW PGA Championship place as he joins Rocco Forte Open

The one-million euro tournament, to be held at Verdura Golf Club in Agrigento, Sicily, will be his fifth attempt on the European tour this year.

As a sponsor invite, Phachara is determined to put on a great result to make sure he will be eligible for next week’s US$ 7-million BMW PGA Championship in England. Based on a current Access List category, the 18-year-old Thai has got the seat for the event. However, he needs to deliver good performance in Italy to retain his place until next week.

According to the Access List qualification into Rolex Series Tournaments, the top performing players on the Access List will get a chance to play at the BMW PGA Championship, the HNA Open de France and the Italian Open. At the conclusion of the Race to Dubai Tournament preceding each of these three events, the leading 3 players from the Access list (who are not otherwise exempt based on the tournament’s entry criteria and cut off), will qualify for such Rolex Series tournament. Thongchai Jaidee and Kiradech Aphibarnrat have earned their places at the BMW PGA Championship.

Phachara has registered impressive results this year with two runner-up spots. However, he feels a bit cautious entering the Italy event.

“The fairways are quite narrow and the green is tough and hard to read,” he said after a practice round.

“The course is by the sea but it is not really windy.”

Joining him at this week’s inaugural Rocco Forte Open is Pavit Tangkramongprasert, who has earned his place through his Asian tour ranking last week.
