Sarun takes 2-shot lead in Phuket

Unheralded Sarun Sirithon posted a 6-under-66 to take a two-shot lead in the first round of the 3-million-baht Singha All Thailand Championship at Blue Canyon Country Club, Canyon course in Phuket on Thursday.

Seeking his professional title since turning pro in 2019, the 24-year-old from Khon Kaen made seven birdies against a lone bogey at 6th to finish on 6-under at the par-72 course in the Island resort.

“I hit a fairway almost every hole so it is easy to play because the fairway is quite narrow,” said the golfer, whose best finish on the all Thailand Golf Tour was 5th at the Singha Thailand Masters in Chiang Rai last year.

“I have been consistent with my driver since last week. Today, my putter has improved a lot.”

Sarun finished tied 19th at last week’s 54-hole ThaiPGA tour event at Lake course, also at Blue Canyon Country Club.

“The course condition is not much different from last week.  The key is to put a ball on the fairway.”

Sarit Suwannarut, Somprad Rattanasuwan and Settee Prakongvech each made a 68 to share second

Poom Saksansin, who made the cut at the British Open this year, bogeyed the last hole en route for a 3-under-69. A stroke down further on 2-under was a group of six players including Kosuke Hamamoto, who also suffered a final hole bogey.

Apart from the cheque of 450,000 baht, the winner of Singha All Thailand Championship, which is staged under the Sandbox Swing project, is expected to earn five world ranking points.

ศรัณย์ ซึ่งลุ้นแชมป์อาชีพแรกนับตั้งแต่เทิร์นโปร ปี 2019 ตีรอบนี้ 7 เบอร์ดี้ 1 โบกี้ โดยมี สาริศ สุวรรณรัตน์  สมปราชญ์ รัตนสุวรรณ และ เศรษฐี ประคองเวช ทำสกอร์ตามหลัง 2 สโตรก

“วันนี้ไดร์ฟค่อนข้างดีครับ อยู่แฟร์เวย์เกือบจะทุกหลุม ทำให้สามารถเล่นช็อตต่อไปได้ง่ายเพราะว่าที่นี่สนามค่อนข้างแคบครับ” ศรัณย์ กล่าว

“ช่วงที่ไม่มีรายการแข่ง มีการทำร่างกายฟิตเนสพอสมควรครับ ซ้อมเป็นประจำอยู่แล้ว ได้ไดร์ฟ ชิพ พัตต์ เป็นประจำอยู่แล้วครับ”

สำหรับพรุ่งนี้ ศรัณย์ กล่าววว่าจะยังเล่นแผนเดิม ตีช็อตแรกเพื่อให้เล่นในช็อตต่อไปได้ง่ายที่สุด

“พยายามตีให้อยู่แฟร์เวย์ไว้ แล้วก็ตีให้ออน เป็นแผนที่ใช้ในสนามนี้ครับ”

ส่วนนักกอล์ฟที่สกอร์อยู่ที่ 3 อันเดอร์พาร์ 69 มี 5 คน ได้แก่ ภูมิ ศักดิ์แสนศิลป์ พลาดท่าเสียโบกี้ที่หลุมสุดท้ายจบที่ 3 อันเดอร์ อยู่ที่ 5 ร่วมเช่นเดียวกับ นิติธร ทิพย์พงษ์, เด่นวิทย์ เดวิด บริบูรณ์ทรัพย์, วรุณ เอี่ยมแก้ว และ ฐิติพัศ เล็ม
