Chanat leads by one at halfway point in Khon Kaen

 

Unhearalded Chanat Sakulpolphaisan took a one-stroke lead after the second round of the 2021 Singha E-San Open on Friday.

 

Looking for his first win on All Thailand Golf Tour, the 31-year-old from Rayong carded a 5-under-67 in the second round of the 3-million baht tournament at par-72 Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club.

 

Making six birdies against alone bogey, Chanat was on 8-under 136 in total, one shot ahead of second placed Poosit Supupramai (66).

 

Denwit David Boriboonsub (69) was third on 6-under while Thanarat Srisathaporn (69) suffered a last hole bogey to stay 5th on 5-under.

 

Defending champion and pre-tournament favorite Phachara Khongwatmai mixed four birdies with three bogeys in testing conditions .

The 23-year-old Phachara, who has six ATGT titles under his belt, entered the weekend rounds with four shots behind the leader. Joining him at 4-under were Chonlatit Chuenboonngam (71), Nirun Sae-ueng (67), Krittin Sunthornnon (70) and Tirawat Kaewsiribandit (69).

 

Fresh from last week’s runner-up at Thailand Open, Prom Meesawat carded a 68 in the second round and was tied 10th with a score of 3-under.

He was in a group of seven players staying five shots behind the leader. They include amateur Sirapob Yapala (69), Rattanon Wannasrichan (71), Nattawat suvajanakorn (72), Chaiphat Koonmark (71), Chapchai Nirat (71) and Wolmer Murillo (69).

 

Danthai Boonma, the tournament winner in 2017 and 2019, shot a 73 to stay tied for 42th on 2-over.

 

Witht the cutline of 4-over 148, sixty-four players have qualified for the weekend.

 

The winner of the 14th edition of Singha E-San Open would take home 450,000 baht and five world ranking points. Importantly, this is the last event to decide who, based on the Order of Merit, will be qualifying for two Asian Tour events in Phuket next month.
