Tawan wins ATGT’s Special Q-School

Tawan Phongphun won the All Thailand Golf Tour Special Q-School 2022 at Kabin Burin Sport Club, Prachinburi on Friday.

The Udon Thani-born player, 27, made a final 70 to finish on 9-under 279 total with

Kittitee Pombunmee (69) and Worawit Woraphan (69). But Tawan has become the winner thanks to countback.

“I am happy to make it. The course is not that tough but it is windy,” said Tawan, who is a former Thai national player.

“Last year, I struggled with my game a bit. Due to Covid-19, it was tough to plan and play golf. This year, I will give my best, trying to improve my physical fitness and also my game.”

Jakkanat Inmee came in third on 8-under following his closing 72.  Sharing at 4th was overnight leader Natthapong Ratchatorn, the amateur who shot one birdie and three bogeys for a 74. The 18-year-old golfer will turn professional after the tournament.

South Korea’s Junsub Park became the only foreigner to secure the ATGT cards at this 72-hole tournament of which top-20 and ties earn the rights to play on All Thailand Golf Tour 2022. Park,30, made a closing 73 for a 7-under 281  total, only two shots behind winner Tawan Phongphun, who shot a final 70.

“I am very proud of being the only foreigner to finish in the top-20 and  secure the ATGT card 2022,” said the 30-year-old golfer, who was among 21 foreigners in the 158-player field this week.

“I am looking forward to the coming tournament and I really want to win the tournament here.”

There were 24 players to have received the ATGT cards 2022. Under category 15, they are eligible to play almost every tournament.

ณัฐพงศ์ รัชธร นักกอล์ฟสมัครเล่น วัย 18 ปี จากขอนแก่น ผู้นำหลังจบรอบสาม จบที่ 4 สกอร์รวม 8 อันเดอร์ โดยนักกอล์ฟวัย 18 ปี รายนี้เป็น 1 ใน 3 นักกอล์ฟที่ได้ตั๋วลุยออลไทยแลนด์ฯ 2022 ขณะที่ จุนซัป ปาร์ค โปรเกาหลีใต้เป็นนักกอล์ฟต่างชาติเพียงคนเดียวจากทั้งหมด 21 คน ที่สามารถคว้าตั๋วในครั้งนี้ได้
